Listen & Learn
During my first two plus months as Interim Superintendent, I was able to engage nearly 300 students, staff, parents, and community members to learn how Eastmont was doing. Below are the main themes with corresponding quotes. Areas to improve have become action steps for us to work on to get even better at serving and supporting our students.
- Positive Relationships and Culture: "Feels like home where people belong. Eastmont is a special place where people want to be."
- Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and Collaboration: "In the PLC journey, we are becoming more alike than different. Essential standards, unit plans, and pacing guides show a new level of focus and intentionality."
- Student Opportunities and Well-Being: "We provide a good amount and variety of activities—there’s a place for everyone. Eastmont takes care of kids with free meals, safety initiatives, and after-school activities."
- Communication and Transparency: "Posting on social media and ParentSquare keeps us informed. Teachers form great partnerships with parents and use a strength-based approach."
- Visibility and Presence: Leadership should be actively visible and engaged in the school and district community to build trust and foster connections.
- Communication and Transparency: Open, honest, and consistent communication is vital for keeping staff, students, and the community informed and aligned.
- Community and Relationship Building: Strong relationships with students, staff, and the community foster a sense of belonging and collaboration.
- Student Empowerment and Advocacy: Leaders should advocate for students, listen to their voices, and create opportunities for meaningful involvement
- Focus on Priorities and Celebrating Success: Prioritize essential areas like academics, safety, and extracurriculars while celebrating achievements to maintain morale and progress.
